theBEAT
theBEAT/Make It At Home

Restaurant nights, at your place.

Pick a dish from theBEAT. Slide to the number you’re feeding. We scale the recipe, calculate the cost, schedule the cook, send the shopping list, and write the invites.

Make It Together turns it into a group cooking night — build the menu, invite the guests, and run it Fully Hosted (you cook the spread) or Shared Table (everyone takes a dish).

How it works

From a dish you loved to the table that’ll remember it.

  1. 01

    Pick a dish you loved.

Every restaurant dish in theBEAT has a Make It At Home version — a home version, scaled to your table. Cacio e pepe, smash burger, birria tacos, slow-braised short rib. The work the kitchen does, made repeatable.

  2. 02

Slide to the number you’re feeding.

2 to 12. Every ingredient, every cost, every cook time auto-recomputes. We scale cook time non-linearly (passive + active × n0.85) — built on a principle the test-kitchen world, America’s Test Kitchen included, has long documented: doubling a recipe doesn’t double the cook time. A 16-pound turkey does not take four times a four-pound turkey. It’s just smarter than apps that cap at six servings and scale linearly.

  3. 03

    Tell us who’s bringing what.

Tap an ingredient, assign it to a guest. Your shopping list splits by person. MapKit surfaces the nearest health-forward groceries. The night becomes shared.

  4. 04

    Send the invite.

A branded share-card lands in their iMessage. No app download required to RSVP. Inside, plating notes turn the meal into the moment. The way it’s held, garnished, served — the kitchen’s read on what makes the dish itself.

Apps that send invites don’t help you cook.
Apps that scale recipes don’t help you host.
theBEAT does both — because the meal IS the moment.

The scaling math, plainly

Doubling a recipe isn’t doubling the time.

Most cooking apps that “scale” a recipe just multiply every number by the same factor. That works for ingredients. It does not work for cook times — because a braise that takes three hours for four servings takes three hours for eight. Heat doesn’t care how much beef is in the pot.

The math everyone uses

4 hr × 2 = 8 hr

Multiplies everything. Tells you to clear a Saturday for a recipe that finishes by lunch.

The math theBEAT uses

passive + (active × n0.85)

Braise (3 hr passive) stays 3 hr. Searing (35 min active) scales to 63 min for double. Total: about 4½ hours, not 8.

Source: the well-known culinary principle that recipes don’t scale linearly (America’s Test Kitchen has written on it, among others). It’s been kitchen wisdom for decades — we just built it into the party planner.
